Glen Eyrie is a castle in Colorado. We have a few castles here, but Glen Eyrie is one of only a couple you can stay at, making it even more special. Recently, I had the pleasure of spending a girl’s weekend here and let me tell you – it was magical!
Nestled up in the foothills of Colorado near Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, its enclosed on all sides by the mountains and cliffs. It truly gives you separation from the city and makes you feel like you’re hundreds of miles away. The castle itself sits on 750 acres, providing plenty of area for exploring the main grounds or taking hikes up away from the castle itself. The scenery is simply gorgeous whichever you prefer.

On the grounds, you’ll find plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the views. There’s multiple hammocks, trails, cornhole, outdoor eating, and so much more. Kristen and I got up close and personal with a group of Bighorn Sheep that seemed to call the castle “home” this time of year. We saw various birds as well, including a flock of wild turkeys that flew in overhead (those things are fast!)
Throughout the day, if you’re hungry for a bite or a drink, the carriage house serves phenomenal food. I order a hot chocolate and a pesto BLT on the first day of my stay. It sticks with me as one of the best (if not the best) sandwich I’ve ever had. The hot chocolate was delicious too, and after sampling Kristen’s hot apple cider, I definitely went back on day two for a cider.

Being a castle, they also have tea. It comes with all the fixtures to enjoy your tea experience. You aren’t required to stay at the castle to enjoy afternoon tea. We didn’t partake, but simply seeing the offerings while we explored, I’m sure its absolutely delicious. It’s also really pretty.
They were decorating for the holiday season while we were there, too. The fixtures were so beautiful and inviting, while also keeping to the theme of the era. I’m thinking of going back in December for a spot of Yule tea with friends. Thankfully, its not so remote that I’d have to worry about the weather preventing me from getting there and back.

The entire experience was simply wonderful. Because the castle is owned and operated by the Navigators (a non-denominational Christian group), you can get religious-themed experiences, like a complimentary bible walk with your stay. It’s not a requirement, though – their mission is simply to provide a place for people to connect with one another. To me, that’s lovely! And also why they don’t have televisions in their rooms, but come on…you’re going to tell me you’re going to go to a castle and watch TV?! No way!

If you ever find yourself in the Colorado Springs area, its at least worth a spot of tea, and I wholeheartedly recommend a stay!
