LuLu, my 1973 Volkswagen Microbus, is the best learning experience I think anyone can have. “Anyone” meaning me, of course!
The most shocking discovery for me has probably been this thing that looks like a tiny toilet in the back “seat” area. Take a look and tell me it doesn’t resemble that!
I did some digging, and I found out that this is how the Volkswagen microbus heated the back seat. This might just be an air cooled thing, perhaps? I don’t have the attachment, but I never would’ve guessed that’s what that weird hole was!
With the help of my niece, I figured out how to fully adjust the driver’s seat. There is both a knob and a lever and believe it or not, the seat of the 1973 VW microbus not only moves forward and backward, but up and down, too! Talk about mind blown! I thought this was something relatively new to cars, but I guess I was wrong.
I don’t know if learned is quite the right word to use for my now-frequent use of power tools, but I’ve been using the circular saw and jigsaw quite regularly. I’m also now pretty confident using the caulking gun, stain, and wood filler. Probably over-confident going to the lumber yard and asking for wood, though. I forgot I was using 1x instead of 2x and I had them very confused about what I was talking about. Oops!
I’ve learned that I really, really love working from home in ways that I never even thought about. It’s not even kind of as isolating as I thought it was going to be, either. Most exciting of all, I think it something that is actually quite simple. I’ve learned that I really can do anything. Maybe its not perfect, great, and questionably good, but I can still do it. And okay, I would’ve told you that at any point in my life, but with every accomplishment I make, I realize that yes, its actually true! It’s a great feeling and its helping me through some processes that have been difficult to navigate. It’s always great to have a good support system, too. Always grateful for that!
