LuLu’s history is a mystery! We know she was originally red at one point in time, including red seats. Then, she was given a make-over to be white and black and white checks were added all around. Her seats were painted black. She ended up in a barn in Illinois, which fell down around her, and she made her way to Colorado. That’s it. That’s what I know.
When I look at her various stickers and adornments, I almost wonder if she was a taxi? In Europe? She has an EU sticker on her along two identical coats of arms. One is a 3D sticker on the back and the other is a metal-spring adornment on the front. They both say “Bayern”. Last but not least, she has a “no smoking” adornment on the dash.
I don’t know if I can ever know, but when I bought her I definitely thought of the ska and punk scenes of my high school years. 17 year old me would have geeked out, but adult me couldn’t stand the fading and peeling squares. So off they came – see the before and after pictures at the end!
This was a project headed up by my mom. I provided support and encouragement, but she did 3 of her 4 sides. We’ve been doing work on the bumper and on the hatch there was old adhesive. She asked if I wanted it gone and I said yes. So she got rid of it!
List:
1. Sticker scraper (she got this ages ago to scrape price tags off items at work)
2. Goo gone (car spray is easiest to use)
3. Rag
The process was simple. Scrape the stickers (video of that HERE). Spray the Goo Gone on the adhesive. Scrub with a rag until all the adhesive is gone. My mom put in a lot of elbow grease on this one, but it was worth it! She looks like “new” and I love it! See the before and after photos:
Now can’t you just imagine her in a soft buttery yellow? Even though that is the last thing down the line, I can’t wait! Keep reading for more updates on her progress!
